Terahertz Water Masers. II. Further SOFIA/GREAT Detections Toward Circumstellar Outflows, and a Multitransition Analysis*

چکیده
Following up on our discovery of terahertz water masers, reported in 2017, we report two further detections maser emission at frequencies above 1 THz. Using the GREAT instrument SOFIA, have detected 1.296411 THz $8_{27}-7_{34}$ transition toward additional oxygen-rich evolved stars, omicron Ceti (Mira) and R Crateris, obtained an upper limit 1.296 line from U Orionis. Toward these three sources, red supergiant star VY Canis Majorae which was previously, also observed several lower-frequency (sub)millimeter transitions using APEX 12-m telescope along with 22 GHz Effelsberg 100-m telescope. We used a simple model to analyse multi-transition data thereby obtained. Adopting, as prior, independent literature estimates mass-loss-rates four sources W Hydrae, infer abundances remarkably narrow range: $n({\rm H_2O})/n({\rm H_2}) = 1.4 - 2.5 \times 10^{-4}$. For o Cet, CMa, Hya, is successful predicting fluxes within typical factor $\sim 1.6 3$. Crt Ori, less successful, flux predictions lying order magnitude or below observations; such discrepancies are perhaps unsurprising given exponential nature amplification.

Single - dish monitoring of circumstellar water masers
We present an overview of the long-term H 2 O maser monitoring program of a sample of late-type stars, carried out with the Me-dicina 32-m and Effelsberg 100-m telescopes, and describe the results in some detail. The role the SRT could play in this program is outlined.
متن کاملCircumstellar masers
Circumstellar masers are unique tools for probing the envelopes around low mass dying stars using VLBI. In this contribution I briefly review the status of our knowledge on these emissions, especially focusing on the latest results obtained by means of VLBI observations. I also outline some of the new windows that will open for VLBI maser research thanks to the upcoming new instrumentation.
متن کاملThe spatial and velocity structure of circumstellar water masers
We report observations with the VLA of 22 GHz H2O maser emission in the circumstellar envelopes of 11 late-type stars. We model the maser emission towards six of them (IRC +60169, R Crt, U Her, RX Boo, R LMi, and R Cas) with a computer program we have developed, that fits threedimensional Gaussian sources (in position and velocity) to the measured intensity distribution. This approach to the pr...
متن کاملAstrometry of Circumstellar Masers
The circumstellar masers around evolved stars offer an interesting possibility to measure stellar parameters through VLBI astrometry. In this paper the application of this technique is discussed, including the accuracy and the uncertainties of the method. The different maser species (OH, H2O, SiO) have slightly different characteristics and applications. This paper does not concern astrometry o...
متن کاملASTROPHYSICS Circular Polarization of Circumstellar Water Masers around S
We present the first circular polarization measurements of circumstellar H 2 O masers. Previously the magnetic field in circumstellar envelopes has been estimated using polarization observations of SiO and OH masers. SiO masers are probes of the high temperature and density regime close to the central star. OH masers are found at much lower densities and temperatures, generally much further out...
